At the Burchfield Penney Art Center, we have been very lucky to have great work-study student employees. We throw a lot at them—working in the Collections department one week, helping with Development the next, and there’s always a project or five to work on in the Archives. Which is why we were thrilled when the Career Development Center confirmed what we already know—that we are lucky to have one of the most dedicated and awesome work-study student employees here, in the form of Esther Ekong! Last week, Esther received the Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year award, and we could not be happier for her. Esther has been with us for two years now, and it has been wonderful working with her on a variety of projects. Here’s part of the narrative we submitted for the application process:
“Esther has proven herself to be capable of any task, motivated, self-directed, and inquisitive. She is incredibly intelligent and affable, and applies her skills easily to the varied tasks we ask of her. Esther’s work is focused and on-point, and she moves through the sometimes-hectic environment of the Burchfield Penney Art Center with grace and humor.
Esther can handle any curve ball that might be thrown at her. Once a task is explained to Esther, she will fulfill the task to the best of her abilities and approach staff with any questions she might have about the process. Esther has been a highly valued member of the Burchfield Penney team. Her intelligence and proactive nature is visible to everyone who has worked with her. Esther has been a huge asset to our goals at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, and we have been grateful to have worked with her, and to have benefited from her attention to detail, her inquisitive nature, and her intelligence.”
Esther Ekong is currently a sophomore majoring in Business Administration and has plans to study oversees when she graduates. We know whatever she does, she will bring her amazing mind and energy to her chosen field. We at the Burchfield Penney Art Center are grateful for her dedication and hard work during her time with us.
